Amazon Black Friday Deals Week
We’re not 100% sold on Black Friday scrummages in the shops, but one thing’s for certain, you can save a shedload of money of Christmas toys if you hit the right deal at the right time online.
Amazon are already giving you a fighting chance to bag a bargain with their Deals Week, with time-limited deals on everything you could possibly want (and quite a lot you could probably live without too!) Like all sales, the mix of offers is somewhat eclectic; on the day we wrote this page, you could get half price coconut oil, 40% off rechargeable candle lights, 46% off a body groomer, 33% off external Christmas lights, and 48% off a plaster mixer! |

How Black Friday Deals Work
The principle is simple - check out the Deals as they go live, and buy at greatly reduced prices before stocks or time runs out. So if you like the look of an offer, stick it in your Basket pronto!
On some offers, Amazon Prime members get advance access so you can beat the rush when the item goes live to everyone else. Since Prime also offers next day delivery and free access to streaming TV and video to keep the kids amused while you tackle the turkey, you could save the cost of membership in a couple of purchases, and get the benefits of Prime all year round. (Here's a sneaky tip - try Prime free for 30 days over Christmas and if you don't like it, just cancel your subscription!)
So, click on the link below and see what bargains are waiting for you. To just see the toys on offer, once you land at Amazon, scroll down on the left and tick the Toys & Games box.

Is a Black Friday Deal Right for Me?
As you can see, to get the best deals, you need to keep checking at Amazon what the deal of the moment is. This can be extremely addictive and time-consuming, especially if you're at work!
So, if you want a particular Christmas toy or Christmas gift, it's better to buy now even if the deal isn't quite so good. Our experience is that is may not be worth the risk to wait, as that your gift might not be discounted in the Black Friday deals, and if it is discounted, that you may not be one of the lucky people to grab the deal.

How to Pay for Your Black Friday Deals
First of all, sign up and get an Amazon account. It's free, quick, and easy, and if you stay logged in during the Black Friday deals, you can pay for purchases faster and stand a better chance of getting that bargain Christmas gift you want. Remember to always log out after shopping if you're not on your own computer.
There are two main ways to pay for goods at Amazon; using a pre-registered credit card or using Paypal. Most of us in the XmasGiftGuru office have both systems set up, but this year we'll be paying via Paypal to make sure we stay on budget. Deal auctions like Black Friday can be highly addictive, and it's all too easy to get carried away in the excitement of the moment.
So, we'll be allocating our Paypal account a certain amount of money, and once it's gone, it's gone. That way, we won't overspend, and what's more, we won't be loading our credit cards too heavily and incurring horrible amounts of interest just at a time when we can't afford it.
After all, a bargain is only a bargain if you can afford it, and to keep us on track, we use Martin Lewis' advice (he of Moneysavingexpert.com) all the time:
• If you're skint, ask: Do I need it? Can I afford it?
• If you aren't, ask: Will I use it? Is it worth it?
If any of the answers to the above are No, pass on the deal and make a cup of tea instead!

Where does the name Black Friday come from?
Black Friday is statistically the busiest Christmas shopping day in the US calendar, and increasingly it is also the day a lot of British shoppers head out to try and buy Christmas goods before the December rush.
From our experience, it's certainly a very busy shopping day in the UK, although unlike the US, people don't tend to take the Friday off work to go shopping. The good thing is, if you don't get the deals you want from the Black Friday Deal Week during Monday to Friday, there's always Saturday to browse through Amazon and buy what you need at a more leisurely pace!
As for us, we believe more in Black Saturday than Black Friday, as on that day at least two of us have suffered minor car accident due to desperate shoppers not watching where they are going when driving their precious hoard of presents home. Therefore, we will be leaving the car on the drive, and doing all our Christmas present shopping online!
